This....
Used to be what our back yard looked like. Green..... Pretty.... yet a bit jungle-ish. And when winter comes.... most of it dies leaving a nice view of the houses in the neighborhood behind us and giving them a straight shot into our back yard. YUCK.
So in July in lieu of taking a summer vacation we installed a fence. YEA! This was for two reasons, privacy and the fact that we have two LARGE dogs. We were letting them out to do their business in the front of the house. We started running into issues with other dogs, and them starting to wander off, instead of staying in the yard and doing their business. So having a fenced in backyard is a huge plus now that we can let them out to play a little. Although now they're digging... the rascals, but what can you do.
Now this is what our back yard looks like.
Having the fence is lovely. It makes our yard look smaller because the green gave the illusion that our yard was bigger, but I'll take this. I guess it's a southern hospitality thing but fences are not very popular out here. I grew up with everyone having 6 - 8' cinder block fences, out here most people don't have them. Some HOA's even limit the type of fence and the height ( usually 4'). I like my back yard to have some privacy.
We still have some work to do in clearing out what is left of the jungle but that will get done in time.

It looks great!!! I surely have guns n roses ringing in my head now too! LOL!
I'm not sure it's just Southern hospitality - hardly anyone in the midwest have fences. Where I grew up, people with dogs mostly just kept them on leashes teathered to either the house or a spike in the ground even.
But speaking as a dog owner, I say a fence is totally the way to go! And yours is sure prettier than these ugly ol' AZ block walls! :)
SOOOOOOOOOOOOO NICE!
